Why
Mangosteen?
The
Mangosteen Resort & Spa Phuket! We have been asked so
many times why we have chosen this name - it seems to make people
curious.Well, maybe it’s time to tell
the story: By the end of the year 2001, we were looking for
a new business opportunity
in Phuket and
decided, our own little resort would be nice to have. Sounds easy!
From the very beginning,
we thought it would need to be as different from others as possible.
What was missing in Phuket? The little boutique style resort, like
we enjoyed it so much in Bali for example! It must have lush gardens
and
it should be in a quiet and relaxing area. Of course there must be
a spa and a nice pool. The villas themselves should feel different,
not
like a hotel room at all. The
name itself also needed to be different! So, we were
collecting ideas for several months, a
lot of nonsense of course, some not too bad.
Than the definition: It must have been an item which could be used
to build a theme around. Positive of course. Asian if possible. Natural,
beautiful, easy to pronounce in any language, easy to remember! Healthy
maybe? Fruits are always good… but which one? The Durian is very
Asian but has some negative smell. Banana? Ridiculous. Mangosteen – why
not? It is the Queen of fruits after all. After thinking
about this, we found out that there are plenty of healthy products
made out of
Mangosteen.
Wine,
juice,
soap,
scrubs,
shampoo,
cream and of course the fruit itself tastes absolutely great. It is
also very exotic, Asian and beautiful. That’s it, the
decision was made.
The Resort
The
name was found, the location not yet. We were first looking for beach
front land, but
never insisted.
The concept we had in mind did
not necessarily need a beach front location. After more than 3 months
search, we had seen more or less all of Phuket. Beaches, jungle, mountains.
Only one site was fascinating: Large enough to build the dream, with
beautiful 360 degree views and in a very nice area in the South of Phuket.
The beach nearby, Nai Harn beach was our favourite anyway. Why? Because
there are almost no hotels there, it is quiet and clean. Why should we
change this? Instead, we decided to build one of Phuket’s first
hillside resorts ever!
